Early LifeChristopher Columbus was born in 1551 in Genoa Italy. He was born into a family of limited means. As he was young he used to hang out with mariners that where much older than him.In 1476 Christopher Columbus had taken a job as a salior off the southern coast of Portugal. Then when,the enemy came into site the fight broke out. the fight lasted for hours. There ship was shot several times and the men started to jump into the water. Finally when Columbus washed to shore, near Lagos he was treated with great kindness. The people who found him told him to make his way to Lisbon many Genoese live there.
Why his voyages where importantColumbus's voyages where important because Columbus believed sailing west across the ocean he would reach India but he didn't know that there was another continent in the way of the path to India called North America. But Columbus thought he was in India. Where he ExploredHe went out in search for Asia. But before he could do that the Europeans believed that sailing west to asia was a dangerous route and would prove fatal for the voyager. He also explored Hispaniola, Cuba, and the Canary Islands. His second voyage began in September 1493. In October that year he and 1,000 men left the Canary Islands. During this voyage Columbus made a policy that later became known as genocide. During his third voyage that began in May, Columbus explored the Gulf of Paria and traveled to the Chacachacare and Margarita Islands.
